City of Brunswick to Open Applications for New H.O.M.E. Act Property Tax Exemption
Brunswick homeowners will soon have a new way to reduce their city property taxes. The City of Brunswick has announced it will begin accepting applications for the voter-approved Home Ownership Municipal Exemption (H.O.M.E.) Act starting January 1, 2026.
The H.O.M.E. Act provides a graduated exemption on property value for city taxes, available to owner-occupied primary residences. The exemption increases based on how long the homeowner has lived in the home—starting at 5% for residents of five years or less and scaling up to as much as 50% for those who have owned their home for 30 years or more. The exemption takes effect for the 2026 tax year.
Applications must be submitted in person between January 1 and April 1, 2026, at the City of Brunswick Tax Department, located at 601 Gloucester Street.

Save the Date: Handbag Bingo for Safe Harbor
January 25 | Frederica Golf Club, SSI
Mark your calendar for one of the Golden Isles’ most feel-good (and fashionable) fundraisers of the year. Safe Harbor Children’s Center is hosting its annual Handbag Bingo on Sunday, January 25, and this year’s event comes with a major guest.
Fashion icon Elyce Arons, co-founder of Kate Spade and CEO of Frances Valentine, will be the featured speaker, sharing stories from her career and her New York Times bestselling book We Might Just Make It After All.
The afternoon blends lighthearted fun with a serious mission: raising funds and awareness for Safe Harbor’s work supporting children and youth facing abuse, neglect, and homelessness across the Golden Isles. Expect bingo rounds, hors d’oeuvres, wine, a silent auction, and plenty of beautiful handbags—plus access to a Frances Valentine trunk show.
Tickets are $125, with VIP tickets at $300 including a meet-and-greet with Arons. Proceeds directly support Safe Harbor’s wide range of programs serving some of the community’s most vulnerable children and families.
