Sometimes a craving isn't reasonable.

Sometimes you don't want a carefully plated appetizer with artisan drizzle and a garnish. Sometimes you want a tray so large that the server looks concerned while carrying it to your table.

That was the mission facing local resident Klarett Castro when she asked a simple question in The People of Brunswick Facebook group:

"Where can I get a really really big and disgusting order of nachos?"

Not the best nachos.

Not the fanciest nachos.

The biggest, messiest, most gloriously excessive pile of chips, cheese, meat, and regret available in Coastal Georgia.

The question struck a nerve. Dozens of locals jumped in with recommendations, personal favorites, and passionate defenses of their favorite nacho destinations.

If there was a clear winner in the discussion, it was Toucans Ale House.

Multiple commenters immediately pointed to Toucans when the conversation turned to sheer size.

One local described them simply as:

"A huge tray."

Others echoed the recommendation without hesitation, making Toucans the closest thing Brunswick has to the oversized sports-bar nacho experience Castro was searching for.

In fact, after reading through the recommendations, Castro announced:

"Will definitely be checking Toucans out."

When locals start measuring nachos by serving vessel instead of portion size, you're probably on the right track.

While Toucans seemed to win on size, Indigo may have won on enthusiasm.

Several commenters passionately endorsed Indigo's jerk chicken nachos.

One local went so far as to say:

"Indigo's nachos are the best thing in the universe."

Strong words for a plate of chips.

Castro agreed that Indigo's nachos are already excellent, but she still had one complaint:

"I want them twice as big."

A relatable problem.

Tipsy's blackened chicken nachos generated plenty of support as well.

Several locals listed them among their favorites, particularly for flavor.

Not everyone agreed, proving once again that nachos are apparently a deeply personal subject.

Still, Tipsy's was one of the names that surfaced repeatedly throughout the discussion.

A number of other recommendations earned support:

• Bubba Garcia's chicken nachos

• La Plancha's full-size nachos, which several commenters described as enormous

• The Hangout, where one local claimed you'll get "a whole tray worth"

• Downtown Cooter Brown's

• Mullet Bay's famous "birdbath" nachos from years past

• 1800 Mexican Restaurant

• Nacho Mama's, which earned praise for flavor but criticism for portion size

Perhaps the most unique recommendation came from several locals who suggested the duck nachos at Reid's Apothecary.

These aren't traditional sports-bar nachos. They're made with wontons instead of tortilla chips and topped with duck.

One commenter recommended ordering:

"Extra duck, extra cheese, oranges on the side."

Another called them a hidden gem.

They're probably not what you order when you're looking for culinary self-destruction, but they may be one of the most distinctive nacho experiences in town.

The most entertaining part of the conversation wasn't actually the recommendations.

It was discovering that Castro wasn't looking for gourmet nachos at all.

After receiving dozens of thoughtful suggestions, she clarified exactly what she wanted:

"I was just really wanting something gross and messy ya know?"

That might be the most honest restaurant review criteria we've ever seen.

The consensus seems to be that if your goal is maximum volume, Toucans should be your first stop. If flavor matters more than engineering scale, Indigo, Tipsy's, Bubba Garcia's, and La Plancha all have strong local followings.

And if anyone knows of a Coastal Georgia restaurant willing to serve nachos in something roughly the size of a kiddie pool, Klarett is apparently still taking recommendations.
