Fat & Fine Downtown Closes, Owners Cite Rising Costs

Fat & Fine has officially closed its downtown Brunswick location, with owners sharing details this week about the decision behind the closure. In a Facebook post, the team emphasized that the move was not due to lack of community or institutional support, praising their landlord and the Downtown Development Authority for being consistently helpful and supportive throughout their time downtown.

According to the owners, the closure ultimately came down to rising operating costs—particularly food prices and inconsistent food quality from suppliers—combined with the growing burden of everyday business expenses like paper goods, trash disposal, taxes, insurance, and accounting. They noted that while local distributors and fellow small businesses such as Anchored and City Market were exceptional partners, higher costs across the board made the business unsustainable.

Rather than raise prices and risk damaging customer trust, the owners said they chose to close before accumulating unpaid bills or harming their reputation. They thanked the community for its support and expressed appreciation for everyone who helped along the way.
