🌟 Brunswick’s Next Big Star? Welcome to the Show, Kyle Lodise

Brunswick may have a new hometown hero on the rise.

We’ve cheered from our couches as Darius Slay soared in the Super Bowl. We remember the excitement when Kwame Brown was taken first overall in the NBA Draft. We’ve followed Adam Wainwright from his Glynn Academy days to a potential Hall of Fame career. And now, it’s time to add another name to that list: Kyle Lodise.

On Sunday evening, Lodise—who starred at Brunswick High—was selected with the first pick of the third round (76th overall) in the 2025 MLB Draft by the Chicago White Sox. That’s right—one of our own is headed to the big leagues.

I’ve got a bit of a personal connection here. Years ago, I had the privilege of coaching Kyle back in Little League, and even then, it was clear the kid was different. Fast hands. Fierce focus. A quiet confidence that turned heads every time he stepped up to the plate. You could just tell.

This past season, Lodise made waves in college baseball during his lone year at Georgia Tech, transferring from Augusta University. He started all 55 games at shortstop, earned Second-Team All-ACC honors, and was named a Brooks Wallace Award semifinalist, recognizing the nation’s top shortstops.

His numbers? Just plain nasty:

• .329 batting average / .429 on-base / .667 slugging

• 39 extra-base hits (2nd most in the ACC)

• Perfect 13-for-13 in stolen bases

• 16 home runs, 20 doubles, 68 runs scored, and 61 RBI

Oh—and did we mention the three-homer, one-triple game he dropped on Notre Dame back in March? Unreal.

Lodise’s meteoric rise this season made MLB scouts sit up and take notice. And now, he's the latest Georgia Tech standout to punch his ticket to the pros, following in the footsteps of current Tampa Bay Ray Chandler Simpson.

Brunswick, keep your eyes on the South Side of Chicago—because Kyle Lodise is just getting started.
