📰 Brunswick Commission to Hold Public Roundtable on Homelessness Monday
The Brunswick City Commission will host a special roundtable session at 4 p.m. on Monday, Sept. 23, at Old City Hall (1229 Newcastle St.), focused on finding actionable ways to support local efforts addressing homelessness.
Commissioner Lance Sabbe emphasized that the meeting will be an open brainstorming session — a rare chance for the commission to sit together and explore how city policies, nonprofit support, and public involvement can be improved.
Topics will include current ordinances like anti-camping regulations, shelter guidelines, police staffing, and the role of citizens in reporting issues or volunteering. One possible solution being explored: self-cleaning, drug-deterrent public restroom facilities for underused public areas like Mary Ross Waterfront Park.
“We’ve heard from businesses and residents that there’s still an issue with the unhoused population,” said Sabbe. “This is a chance to look at how we can improve and give staff some actionable directives.”
The public is encouraged to attend.
