The Apex Theatre Studio of Jacksonville brings the acclaimed musical Come From Away to the Ritz for a weekend run. Based on an extraordinary true story, the show follows the small community of Gander, Newfoundland, after 38 planes carrying thousands of travelers were unexpectedly diverted there on September 11, 2001. What follows is a funny, moving story of strangers opening their homes — and their hearts — to people from around the world.
Performances run July 18–19. Tickets range from $5 for children and students to $20 for nonmember adults, with discounts for Golden Isles Arts & Humanities members and seniors.

Spend a peaceful Sunday afternoon making a few four-legged friends. This nonprofit animal sanctuary opens its gates most Sundays, weather permitting, giving visitors a chance to meet rescued and retired horses, donkeys, goats, pigs and cats and hear their stories. Admission is free, although donations are appreciated, and children must be accompanied by an adult.

Open Auditions – Dirty Rotten Scoundrels, The Musical

The Island Players are looking for adult actors for their fall production of Dirty Rotten Scoundrels. Auditions include six main roles plus ensemble parts and are open to performers of all backgrounds. Come prepared with a song that shows off your vocal range — a pianist will be provided if you bring sheet music, or you can use a backing track — and expect to cold-read selections from the script. Auditions continue Monday, July 20, with callbacks July 21. Performances are scheduled for late September and early October.
