📱 County Launches New Text Alert System

Glynn County wants to make it easier than ever to stay in the know. Starting Oct. 22, residents can sign up for TextMyGov, a new text message service delivering quick updates about emergencies, meetings, severe weather, and other important county happenings.

To join, simply text GLYNN to 80946, then reply YES to confirm. You can opt out anytime by texting STOP.

County Communications Director Brittany Dozier said the program is meant to complement—not replace—the existing Code Red emergency notification system. “We’re excited about this new way of communicating with residents,” Dozier said. “It’s part of our ongoing effort to enhance county services with modern tools.”

🌭 There’s a New Dog in Town

Looks like Willie’s Weenie Wagon might have some competition for the title of top dog in town. 🐶

Ripper’z has opened its doors at 203 Edwards Plaza on SSI, serving up comfort food from sunrise to sunset — including their signature fried dog, smash burgers, hearty salads, and breakfast classics with a twist.

They’re open 7 a.m.–6 p.m. Mondays, Tuesdays, and Thursdays, 7 a.m.–8 p.m. Fridays and Saturdays, 8 a.m.–4 p.m.Sundays, and closed Wednesdays.

🤠🎄 Saddle Up for “A Cowboy Christmas” Parade in Downtown Brunswick

Dust off your boots and shine up those sleigh bells — the 2025 Brunswick Christmas Parade is riding into town on Saturday, Dec. 13 with this year’s theme: “Jingle Jangle Jubilee – A Cowboy Christmas.”

Floats, bands, and holiday hoedown spirit will take over Downtown Brunswick, with lineup starting at 2:30 PM at Howard Coffin Park. All participants must be in place by 4 PM for judging, and the parade kicks off promptly at 5:30 PM.

Sponsored by the City of Brunswick and Brunswick DDA, this Western-style celebration promises to be one festive showdown of Christmas cheer. 🎅🐴

🍗 A Local Legend Gets His Due: Don Que’s Featured in Voyage Savannah

If you haven’t read it yet, check out this great write-up about Quamine Haywood, the founder and pitmaster behind Don Que’s Southern BBQ, one of the true culinary treasures of the Golden Isles.

The Lantern crew counts Don Que’s among our personal favorites — the smoked chicken is hands-down the best in town, the ribs are fall-off-the-bone perfection, and the sides are so good it’s almost impossible to choose just two. (We usually don’t.)
