Summer weekends are made for trying something newβ€”or rediscovering something old. This week we're taking a trip back in time with Georgia's oldest drive-in movie theater, comparing three Brunswick homes that prove you can still find curb appeal for under $300,000, and rounding up another packed weekend of live music and local events across the Golden Isles. Whether you're house hunting, planning date night, or just looking for an excuse to get out of the house, we've got you covered.

🍿 A Summer Night at Georgia's Oldest Drive-In

Looking for something a little different this weekend? If you've never experienced a drive-in movie theaterβ€”or it's been years since your last visitβ€”the Jesup Drive-In Theatre is well worth the short drive.

Opened in 1948, the Jesup Drive-In is Georgia's oldest operating drive-in theater and remains one of the state's most unique family attractions. For one admission price, you'll get a double feature shown under the stars, with audio broadcast through your car's FM radio.

Back when my kids were little, this was one of our favorite family outings. We'd bring blankets and snacks, settle into the car, and by the time the second (usually more adult-oriented) movie started, the kids were fast asleep in the back seat.

The drive-in also has a playground where kids can burn off some energy before the movies begin, plus a concession stand with classic movie treats. If you'd rather pack your own picnic, you can do that too by purchasing a food permit.

Admission is refreshingly affordable:

  • Fridays: $15 per carload for Family Day (plus concession specials)

  • Saturdays: $9 adults, $8 children, or $20 per carload

  • Sundays: Date Night special with 2 tickets, 2 drinks, and popcorn for $20

Gates open at 7 p.m., with movies beginning at dark.

The theater has survived tornadoes, Hurricane Helene, and changing times, but thanks to dedicated owners Ralph and Jamie Hickox, it continues to delight new generations of moviegoers. After suffering extensive damage during Hurricane Helene in 2024, the drive-in was lovingly restored and reopened in spring 2025.

Whether you're introducing your kids to a drive-in for the first time or reliving memories from decades ago, the Jesup Drive-In offers an experience that's becoming increasingly rare. Sometimes the best way to spend a summer evening is simply watching a movie... under the stars.

🏑 House Hunt: Which Brunswick Starter Home Would You Choose?

Finding a move-in-ready single-family home with good curb appeal for under $300,000 has become nearly impossible on St. Simons Islandβ€”and you're not going to find one on Jekyll Island either. But if you're willing to live in Brunswick, there are still some intriguing options.

Here are three homes currently on the market, each offering something a little different. Which one would get your vote?

🏑 Option 1 – Historic Charm
1404 Sycamore Avenue – $274,000

Built in 1911, this Windsor Park cottage is packed with character. Original hardwood floors, a fireplace, large back deck, and even a wired treehouse make this one stand out. Many major systems have already been updated, and it's within walking distance of Downtown Brunswick, Howard Coffin Park, pickleball courts, the pool, and restaurants.

🏑 Option 2 – Turnkey Downtown Cottage
1608 Monck Street – $199,000

The most affordable of the three, this remodeled two-bedroom cottage is being sold fully furnished and has been operating as a successful vacation rental. It features a wraparound porch, updated roof and HVAC, fiber internet, and a location just blocks from Historic Downtown Brunswick. If you've been looking for an affordable homeβ€”or an investment property that's ready to goβ€”this one deserves a look.

🏑 Option 3 – Space for the Money
310 Buck Trace – $239,000

Need more room? This ranch-style home offers four bedrooms, nearly half an acre, and sits on a quiet cul-de-sac. A converted garage provides flexible space for a game room, office, or guest suite, while the wood-burning fireplace and large lot give it a traditional family-home feel.

So...which would you buy?

Would you choose the historic charm and walkability of Sycamore Avenue, the turnkey downtown cottage on Monck Street, or the extra space and quiet neighborhood of Buck Trace? Or would you keep looking for something else entirely?
