The Golden Isles has opinions—and not the quiet kind. From where you’d actually raise a family (Downtown vs. The Island šŸ‘€) to gas station chaos and driving debates that are… let’s just say heated, this week’s conversations are spicy.

On top of that, one of the best weekends of the spring is here—Art in the Park, live music everywhere, and plenty of reasons to get out of the house. Let’s get into it šŸ‘‡

A word from our sponsor…

Why Burned-Out Professionals Are Turning to CBD

Job burnout is on the rise, but a 2022 CBDistillery study found that participants taking CBD and CBG reported reduced mild or temporary anxiety and increased focus. The leading brand for high-quality, lab-tested CBD solutions, CBDistillery offers multiple formulas with CBD and CBG – and code FOCUS will save you 20% on this bundle.

šŸš“ Brunswick Police Roll Out New Look + Add Mental Health Clinician

The Brunswick Police Department is making a couple of notable updates—both on the street and behind the scenes.

First, you may start noticing a new look around town. The department has introduced updated black-and-white patrol vehicles and refreshed uniform patches, featuring a thin blue line to honor officers and a yellow line recognizing dispatchers. Officers will also be transitioning to a new uniform style with jersey blue polos and navy pants, giving the department a more modern, community-focused appearance.

But the bigger shift might be in how certain calls are handled.

BPD has officially added a part-time clinician role, bringing mental health expertise directly into the field. The new clinician will work alongside officers during select calls, helping with de-escalation, on-site assessments, and connecting individuals with resources and follow-up care.

The position is now filled by Janel Holland, a longtime Brunswick resident with over 20 years of experience in mental health and criminal justice. Her background spans everything from counseling and nonprofit work to teaching and supporting military populations—bringing a deep bench of experience to the role.

City officials say this move has been a long-term goal and is part of a broader effort to take a more community-centered and proactive approach to public safety.

šŸŽ¾ SAVE THE DATE: Golden Isles Hardcourt Championships šŸŽ¾

If you’ve been itching to get back out on the courts (or finally prove you’re better than your doubles partner šŸ˜), this is your moment.

The Golden Isles Hardcourt Championships are set for May 15–17 at Epworth Park (SSI)—and this one’s shaping up to be more than just a tournament.

We’re talking multiple skill levels (3.0 → Open), men’s, women’s, and mixed doubles… plus food trucks, a silent auction, bake sale, and a full weekend of tennis energy.

Even better—this year’s event honors Ken Thompson, a local tennis legend who helped shape the game for generations here. A portion of proceeds supports the Saint Francis Xavier school tennis team in his memory.

šŸ‘‰ Bottom line: don’t wait. These spots will fill. Grab your partner, lock it in, and get registered.
